Red Devils News · ATHLETICS & COVID-19

The year 2020 will go down in history as one on the most tumultuous years in recent history. So many events hav forced us to assess and make changes to our every day routines. None have affected us more than COVID-19. March 12th, saw schools across the country shut down due to this pandemic. Senior activities and graduations were cancelled and or altered. Sports came to a halt forcing everyone to slow down to a crawl. This forced schools and athletic associations across the country to make major adjustments as to when, or if sports will be played. Fast forward to now. MLB, NBA, NHL, PGA, etc., are starting back up with major limitations such as no spectators. or playing in a “bubble” or controlled environment. Schedules had to altered as well.

NCAA is moving in the direction of starting College football. Some teams and players have decided to opt out for different reasons. This brings us to High School sports. The governing body(CIF), has decided to move all athletics to begin in the winter. Two seasons (Fall & Spring) will begin contest on January 8th. This is all contingent upon school campuses being opened in a timely manner.

Below is a link to the CIF website for more details on the season and what the future may possibly entail for High School sports.
